Tokyo Idol Festival is Back for 2015! First Announcements Broadcast From Odaiba!

Tokyo Idol Festival (TIF), the largest idol event in Japan, is set to once again bring together over 100 groups and thousands of fans together this summer! Announced at a press conference which was broadcast live from Fuji TV’s spherical observation room “Hachitama” on March 24th, Tokyo Idol Festival 2015 is one part of Tokyo Idol Project which was launched in order to spread idol culture worldwide.
Tokyo Idol Festival 2015 will take place on August 1-2 at several locations in Odaiba. The first batch of groups confirmed to be appearing are (listed in Japanese “alphabetical” order): Idoling!!!, UPUPGIRLS (KARI), Afilia Saga, Dorothy Little Happy, Negicco, PASSPO☆, Fudanjuku, Babyraids JAPAN, and LinQ. Last year’s event had a record-setting 138 groups from all over Japan performing on 7 stages and attracted more than 40,000 fans from all over the world.
While this is only the first announcement, how many more groups will be announced? What possible big names will appear on the Hot Stage? If you watched the live broadcast, you might have seen that Dempagumi.inc was the first performer and HKT48 was the last performer at the press conference, so will they be returning again? HKT48′s Thrilling Return to the Tokyo Idol Festival
Tokyo Idol Festival is also known for being a place where new groups make their big splash on the idol scene. Some notable standout groups from 2014 were La PomPon and Pla2me. At the same time, there are groups that will never be seen on a TIF stage again. This year is Idoling!!!’s final TIF as they will be disbanding in the fall. Last year’s event marked the final TIF performances of AeLL, Seishun! Tropical Maru (indefinite hiatus) and TOKYO GIRLS’ STYLE (artist declaration) as well as S/mileage and Babyraids before their name/image changes. One thing is certain: it’s going to be a hot weekend so don’t forget to stay hydrated, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a towel!
