Showa Idol Archives Vol.1 at Jimbocho’s Gakki Cafe, Featuring Legendary Showa Idol “Candies”!

On September 26, 2016, Gakki Cafe in Jimbocho put on Showa Idol Archives Vol. 1, a talk event about Showa-era idols. Candies was the first feature artist to kick off the event. While listening to Candies’ hits and looking at Candies’ memorabilia, we talked and reminisced about our memories of the idol group.
2016年9月26日に神保町の楽器カフェにて、昭和のアイドルについて語り合うトークイベント「昭和アイドルアーカイブス vol.1」が開催された。初回のテーマは「キャンディーズ」。キャンディーズの楽曲を聴いたり、グッズを見たりしながら、活動当時の思い出を語り合った。
Haruka Tachibana, member of the idol group Ange☆Reve, was there to help oversee the event. It may come as a surprise, but she’s a Candies fan herself, and her favorite member was Suu-chan (Yoshiko Tanaka). She told us that she’d first became a fan of the group because of her grandmother, and without knowing that they’d already broken up at the time she first watched a video of them live, asked her grandmother if she could go to their concert. At the end of the event, (famous yo-yo enthusiast) Hiroyuki Suzuki commented that, “It’s amazing to see that Candies’ reach has continued beyond their era,” noting how the event had captured the interest of an audience made up of all ages.
本イベントの進行を務めるのは、アイドルグループAnge☆Reveのメンバー橘はるか。実は、キャンディーズが好きで、スーちゃん（田中好子）推しだとか。おばあちゃんの影響でファンになり、すでに解散しているをことを知らず、DVDのライブ映像を見ながら「ライブに行きたい」とおばあちゃんに頼んだというほっこりエピソードも飛び出した。イベント終わりに出演の鈴木啓之から「世代を超えてキャンディーズの話ができるというが素晴らしいですね」との言葉があったが、集まったお客さんの年齢層も幅広く、今回のイベントの面白さを象徴するものだった。
Many kinds of nostalgic memorabilia were showcased during the event, including concert pamphlets. Other rare treasures, like the mugs fans received for attending the group’s Chinzanso event, were also on display. Then, during her singing corner, Haruka Tachibana did a cover of “Hohoemi Gaeshi”. Both Ange☆Reve and Candies fans were pleasantly surprised.
イベント内ではコンサートパンフレットなどの懐かしいグッズを紹介。また、ご来場の参加者からは「椿山荘」のイベントでもらったというマグカップなど、お宝グッズも披露された。そして、橘はるかの歌唱コーナーは「微笑がえし」をカバー。集まったAnge☆Reveのファン、そしてキャンディーズファンを喜ばせた。
The next volume of the event will be held on October 24 (Monday), and will feature the group ribbon. Just like Candies, they were a three-member group, and because they’re veterans of the Pony Canyon label in the eyes of Ange☆Reve, they were chosen for next volume’s theme, even though they were active well after the Showa era had already ended. With member Hiromi Nagasaku currently working as an actress, and idol group Hakoiri♡Musume covering their music, there’s still lots to tell about the group. We can only imagine what kind of stories will come out at the event, so if you’re curious, be sure and check it out!
本イベントの次回開催は10月24日（月）。そして、気になるテーマは「ribbon」となっている。キャンディーズを受けての3人組グループ、さらにはAnge☆Reveにとってはポニーキャニオンの大先輩ということで選ばれたのだが、時代は一気に昭和を飛び越える。メンバーの永作博美が女優として活動し、アイドルグループ ハコイリ♡ムスメが楽曲をカバーするなど、今でも語られることの多いこのグループについて、どのような話が飛び出すのか、気になる人はぜひ足を運んでほしい！
