With so much music being released every week in Japan, sometimes it’s difficult to keep up to date. According to Oricon, over 30 singles were released by idol groups in January. We have compiled a short list of our favorite five MVs released for songs that came out this month. The MVs are listed in chronological order according to their release date.

Pla2me – “UNIT” (release date: January 6)

The duo of Saki Kamiya (ex-BiS) and Mari Mizuta (ex-Izukoneko) made a splash in their first appearance at Tokyo Idol Festival 2014, running into the audience at the Smile Garden outdoor stage while performing their debut song “Plastic 2 mercy”. Releasing their first MV for their second single “UNIT”, they climb a mountain while chained together on a rainy autumn day.

Q’ulle – “mic check one two” (release date: January 14)

The debut single of the group that rose from the ashes of the disbanded DANCEROID. The title of the song refers to the fact that this is their first time singing as they had previously focused their efforts solely on dancing. For those of you wondering where the dancing is, there is also an “odottemita” (literally “I tried to dance”, a popular term used on Nico Nico for videos featuring dance performances) version on their YouTube channel.

DIANNA☆SWEET – “Deep Snow” (release date: January 21)

Produced with the cooperation of their fans through crowd funding, the MV for DIANNA☆SWEET‘s 4th single “Deep Snow” reflects the jazzy retro tone of the song and showcases the dance skills that have made them one of the fastest rising new groups out of Nagoya. Plus, it never gets old seeing that scene with TGU’s very own “Itaru” in the video!

La PomPon – “BUMP!!” (release date: January 28)

Another group that made their debut at Tokyo Idol Festival 2014, La PomPon (Power Of Music, Pride of New generation) trained for 2 years before making their first appearance. The wait was worth it as Twitter was buzzing about their high level of dancing and singing. Perhaps once of the most highly-anticipated debuts in recent memory, La PomPon seems ready for the coming “age of quality”.

Momoiro Clover Z – “Yume no Ukiyo ni Saitemina” (release date: January 28)

You wanted the best? You got the best! Momoiro Clover Z teamed up with legendary rockers KISS for a collaboration that the world has never seen before. Add to that the amazing animation of Sushio, character designer of Kill La Kill, and you have an amazing fusion of East and West that will not be soon forgotten!

Girls’ Band Category : Silent Siren – “KAKUMEI” (release date: January 14)

Silent Siren gets a special mention in the girls’ band category for January with the MV for their song “KAKUMEI” that was released on January 14th, right before their sold out first Budokan solo concert on January 17th.

Let us know if you think we overlooked your favorite MVs of January. With so much music out there, it’s definitely possible that we might have missed something.
