The Final Result of JKT48 13th Single Senbatsu Election: Jessica Veranda Wins 1st Place 2 Years in a Row!

On May 7, 2016, JKT48 held their 3rd Senbatsu Election, which determines the 16-member lineup for their 13th Single “Maeshika Mukanee” and the 16-member lineup for the coupling song of the single, which will be released in June 2016. It was also announced that the 16 senbatsu members will appear in Honda Indonesia’s commercials.

This year saw a total of 631,418 votes, a huge increase from last year’s 366,301 votes. The election result was aired on Rajawali TV, a local TV station, and was streamed live online.

Ex-AKB48 member Rina Chikano, who transferred to JKT48 in June 2014 and ranked 18th in last year’s election, improved significantly and came in at 9th place. Many members shed tears when she expressed her gratitude to fans for voting her into senbatsu.

This is also the last senbatsu election for Haruka Nakagawa, another ex-AKB48 member who announced her graduation. She ranked 2nd last year and took 3rd place this year.

Jessica Veranda, who won 1st place last year with 22,404 votes, repeated the feat with 42,005 votes. This marks the first time in the history of the 48 Group that a member won 1st place 2 years in a row.

I finally made it to senbatsu. It took 9 years, but I am glad I did not give up during those 9 years. I will share the good news with fans and family in Japan! I would like to take Haruka’s place and become the force that pulls JKT48 forward.

I really wanted to become center, but I am just as happy about getting 3rd place. If not for fans, I would not have ranked here.
I had always wondered about my choice to move to JKT48 but today I found the answer.
I was right to move to JKT48!
And I will create a legend out of this group. I hope that new legends will be created by fans and members after I’m gone!

I have only been in senbatsu a handful of times since JKT48 started. Even though I am not as popular as other senbatsu members, fans have always supported me and got me to 2nd place today. I didn’t have a lot of self-confidence, but this rank has given me some. I am not sure if I can repay all of this, but I will give my best smile and performance as a JKT48 member.

I believe JKT48 will become a better group, because there is still plenty of room to improve and I will do my best to help.
