Akihabara’s maid cafe, @Home Cafe, and hand-made brand Rurumu’s collaboration cafe is now open!

@Home Cafe is a famous maid cafe known even to people who aren’t very familiar with Akihabara. It opened in 2004, and to celebrate their 10th anniversary, they have collaborated with Rurumu.

Rurumu is a fashion brand by Kanae Higashi, a popular designer who has designed a costume for Seiko Omori ( and styled and designed costumes for artists and idols like The concept behind the brand is “outo couture” (or “vomit couture”), by utilizing all feelings, including negative ones, to fuel creativity in her work. This is how she creates “battle armor” and accessories for women, who are her muses, who have to become stronger to battle the irony, poison, and love. She is an extremely popular artist among subculture girls.

The aprons the maids wear were all designed and hand-knit for this occasion. The interior is designed with Rurumu’s characteristic decorations, and the very different atmosphere will tickle your feminine side.

There is even a menu for this collaboration that includes postcards and stickers.

Whether you are a maid cafe fan or not, you can still enjoy the Rurumu fashion and distinctive style!

There will also be an opening event on February 21 (Saturday) for this collaboration cafe! Six maids will be serving, wearing the specially produced knits for this collaboration! And because there are many female fans of Rurumu, a period will be limited to female entry only.

This may be exaggerating, but it’s as if this a subculture festival created by girls for girls! It’s a really interesting collaboration. Girls obviously know what will make girls say “kawaii!” This cafe has cute maids wearing cute Rurumu outfits within a Rurumu decorated cafe. Girls are surely to enjoy this cafe more than boys.
