Highlights of Hello! Project 2016! Graduation of Morning Musume.’16 Members, Return of Sayumi Michishige, And More!

With significant Hello! Project members graduating and ℃-ute announcing their disbandment, there was a lot of sad news for Hello! Project fans in 2016. Despite these setbacks, it seems like there’s much to look forward to in 2017! Before going into the new year, let us reflect back on the main events that occurred in 2016.
February 2016 – Morning Musume. ’16 – Concert at Anime Matsuri in Houston, Texas
Morning Musume. ’16 made their first performance in Texas appearing at the main event of “Anime Matsuri”. It was the 10th anniversary of Anime Matsuri, and first time in 2 years since Morning Musume. ’16 had a live outside of Japan.
May 2016 – ANGERME – Meimi Tamura Graduation
It was December of 2015 when Meimi Tamura announced her graduation from ANGERME. She concluded her career as an idol at Nippon Budokan On May 2016 with over 10,000 fans sharing her last moments. Looking into the future to become a musical actress, she showed a great performance and love towards singing, which convinced us that she will turn into a great musical star.
May 2016 Morning Musume.’16 – Kanon Suzuki Graduation
After Riho Sayashi graduated from Morning Musume. ’15 in December, Kanon Suzuki followed up with her graduation announcement in February. Her graduation concert was held at Nippon Budokan the day after Meimi Tamura’s graduation, and it was the first time in 18 years of Hello! Project history where graduation concerts were held two days in a row. “Utakata Saturday Night”, a disco tune with unforgettable choreography was one of the best songs that Morning Musume. 16′ released that year and also a fitting farewell to Kanon.
June 2016 – ℃-ute – Chisato Okai Temporary Hiatus For Vocal Cord Nodule Treatment
Fans were surprised when Chisato announced during ℃-ute’s concert that she would undergo surgery and treatment for vocal cord nodule after her birthday fan club event on June 22nd. She showed a great performance at ℃-ute’s live on June 20, and returned just the same in her tour final at Nippon Budoukan after her surgery.
August 2016 – Country Girls – Manaka Inaba Graduation
After being on hiatus for three months due to asthma, Manaka announced in August that she would be graduating Country Girls since her condition had not improved. Though she would no longer be in the group, she showed enthusiasm in her blog that she hopes to show up again in the future, so let us wait for that moment.
August 2016 – Buono! – First One-Man Live at Nippon Budokan
It had been four years since the last time Buono! had performed. Tickets sold out immediately and over 10,000 fans filled the venue. Of course, the performance was amazing with Momoko, Airi, and Miyabi showing their rock tunes and powerful dancing that cannot be seen when they are in their own groups.
August 2016 – ℃-ute Disbandment in June 2017 Announcement
The disbandment of ℃-ute might have been the most shocking news of 2016. They announced that the group will disband after their Saitama Super Arena performance that is scheduled in June 2017. After all members became 20 years old, they had been discussing about the future of ℃-ute and each member, and came up to this conclusion. Being active for 12 years as an idol, we must keep an eye on their last moments until next year!
November 2016 – Juice=Juice – First Budokan Live
Holding a concert tour titled “Juice=Juice LIVE MISSION 220” that set a goal of completing 220 concerts across Japan, Juice=Juice successfully accomplished this in the concert at Matsuyama Salon Kitty in October. They showed a powerful performance with singing voices that seems to be becoming stronger each live, and the venue was filled with overwhelming happiness.
November 2016 – Return of Sayumi Michishige
Welcome back Sayumi! It was officially announced on her blog that she will return to the entertainment industry from the spring of 2017. She added that she aims to perform with a new sensation different from that of a concert. The detailed information about her next performance will be announced soon!
December 2016- Morning Musume.’16 Introduces Two New Members at Nippon Budokan
The new members of Morning Musume.’16 were finally announced! Reina Yokoyama and Kaede Kaga appeared on stage for the first time at Nippon Budokan on December 12, 2016 and Morning Musume.’16 is now a group of 13 members as they become Morning Musume.’17!

Birthplace: Saitama
Height: 152.5 cm
Skill: Jazz dance and saxophone
Loves to dance and sing.
Kaede Kaga
Birthdate: November 30, 1999
Birthplace: Tokyo
Height: 162 cm
Skill: Trumpet and Kendo
Loves karaoke and watching anime.
Not only can we look forward to the comeback of Sayumi, Morning Musume will be active with the new members as “Morning Musume.’17 to begin the new year, and ℃-ute will also be in their best condition before graduating. ANGERME and Juice=Juice have also shown great presence at their Budokan concerts, so we can look forward to their further development and growth! Country Girls, Kobushi Factory, Tsubaki Factory are filled with freshness and are also on their way to succession, so make sure to keep an eye on them in 2017 too!
