Event Report: Japan’s Greatest Fashion and Music Event “GirlsAward 2015 AUTUMN / WINTER”

On October 24, an event that integrates both fashion and music, “Girls Award 2015 AUTUMN/WINTER”, was held at Tokyo, Yoyogi National Stadium.

Not only the runway of the Japanese top models such as Yu Yamada, Nanao, and An Nakamura, it consisted lives of various idol groups and artists throughout seven and a half hours!

The show started from the opening act of the singer-song writer, Sonoko Inoue. Second up of the opening act was Tokyo Girls’ Style, who showed up in a stylish red and black costume. Although it was the first time for me to watch them live, their performance was definitely like an “artist” with a high dance and singing skills. After their performance, they announced that their new album “REFLECTION” would be released on December 23.

The kick-off model of the fashion show was Keiko Kitagawa, one of the most popular actresses in Japan. As soon as she appeared on stage, the venue resounded with cheers. Following Keiko Kitagawa came Mayuko Kawakita and Tina Tamashiro, who are both popular models that frequently appear on magazines. Not only models, former members of Hello! Project such as Ai Takahashi, Nozomi Tsuji, and Erina Mano also walked through the runway!

After a few hours of the fashion show, Dempagumi.inc made a debut on the Girls Award by walking through the runway wearing the costume of the brand SPINNS.

After all members had finished walking, they performed 3 songs: Denden passion, Ashita Chikyu ga Konagona Ni Nattemo, and Akihabalife♪.

It was also the first time for SCANDAL to appear in Girls Award. They collaborated with Old Navy, and performed two songs in their lovely outfit.

Towards the middle of the event, here comes the group everyone was waiting for! Nogizaka46 entered on stage and danced to 5 songs starting off with “Inochi ha Utsukushii”.

As they started their performance, the number of glow sticks in the audience increased, and the venue was filled with colorful lights. They also performed their new 13th single “Ima, Hanashitai Dareka ga Iru”, and ended with “Taiyou Knock”.

The last girls group to perform was the secret guest E-girls. They appeared in a shiny costume of gold, black, and silver, on the special stage of the fashion brand Samantha Vega.

Though consisting 19 members, they showed their aligned sharp dance moves that appealed to the audience, and the venue was filled with cheers of young ladies.

GirlsAward has been held twice a year since 2010. This was their 12th show, and the next one is planned to be held in this summer. If you have any plans coming to Tokyo during the summer, keep an eye on the greatest fashion event in Japan!
