As the summer is just beginning, more and more idol MVs filmed on the beach or poolside have been coming out lately and it’s not just in Japan! It looks like Team NII and HII from SNH48 may have filmed their version of AKB48’s classic summer song “Ponytail to Shushu” back when the group was in Saipan to film the MV for their version of “Manatsu no Sounds Good” earlier this year.

Adding a ukulele to the already famous piano intro, the MV is mostly the members dancing on the beach but there are several scenes of them riding a bicycle, playing ukulele, exploring an old bus, riding a catamaran and of course, taking pictures of themselves! If you live in Saipan, it might be worth buying a catamaran or really nice house with a pool? At the very least, maybe a nice flashy convertible for the next time SNH48 comes to shoot a video? But then again, that definitely costs a lot more than flying to Shanghai to go see them perform.

Here is the original AKB48 version from 2010, complete with the 2-minute long intro of the members in the locker room. So many memorable scenes! Looks like drone technology wasn’t that developed in 2010 because the shadow of the helicopter used to film the beach scenes is visible.

If like us, are a little confused about the names of the member(s) that you are interested in, there are videos with their names in katakana and Romaji. Here is the Team SII version of “Manatsu no Sounds Good!”

Here is the Team HII version.

Even though all of the members’ names are written in Romaji on the official website, this is a little more interesting, no?

We are still learning about SNH48 since our main focus is Japanese idols but, with the world becoming more interconnected, maybe we should start paying more attention to them from now on? With so many Japanese idols going overseas to spread idol culture, seeing how that culture is interpreted and transformed in other countries should be interesting too, right?
