Shihori Suzuki announced her graduation from AKB48 at the end of her birthday concert (Team K – “RESET”) at the AKB48 Theater on February 16th.
She explained that in order to pursue her new dream, she would need to devote more time to job hunting activities and studying. This was Suzuki’s 2nd time to graduate from AKB48. She had previously joined the group as a 7th generation kenkyuusei along with Misaki Iwasa, Mariya Suzuki, Ami Maeda, and Sakiko Matsui in 2008. However, she graduated shortly after being promoted to Team B in August of 2009. Suzuki rejoined the group as an 11th generation kenkyuusei alongside Rina Kawaei, Wakana Natori, Natsuki Kojima, Ayaka Morikawa (who announced her graduation on February 3rd) in 2010. Mariya Suzuki joked that she felt like the other Suzuki would return a 3rd time, and even urged her to re-audition if things did not go well. Suzuki hinted that if her career change was successful, there would be a good chance that she would be able to meet with fans and members in the near future and asked for everyone to hope that it would happen.
Shihori Suzuki’s final handshake event as an AKB48 member will be on May 30, 2015 at Tokyo Big Sight. Details of her final theater performance will be announced later.
