Photographer Yuki Aoyama is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his “Solaryman” (a portmanteau of the words “sora”, 空 meaning “sky” and “salaryman”, サラリーマン meaning “office worker”) and “Schoolgirl Complex” series with the exhibition “YUKI AOYAMA PHOTOGRAPHY 2006-2015 [SOLARYMAN & SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX] ” which opens on September 14, 2016 and will run until October 9, 2016 at YUKAI HANDS Gallery in Tokyo.

Aoyama’s “Schoolgirl Complex” series has become popular through the edgy and playful ways he has framed the lives of Japanese schoolgirls. His “Solaryman” series which contrasts the muted and drab image of Japan’s salarymen with the joy and individuality lurking deep within them being revealed when they jump into the air has become one of his best known works, being picked up by media outlets worldwide.

Perhaps you may be familiar with some of Aoyama’s previous works “Sayonara, Youthful Days” (Miss iD 2015), “Watashi Dake Ga Inai Sekai” (Miss iD 2016), “Taiwan Kawaii School Girl”, “Kawaii skirt no mekurikata: SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX 4”, or the photobooks for Rina Ikoma (Nogizaka46) “Kimi no Ashiato” or Kaori Matsumura (SKE48) “Mushuusei”?

Aoyama will be making 3 appearances at the exhibition and will be signing merchandise purchased at the event. In addition to copies of his new books SOLARYMAN 2006-2015 and SCHOOLGIRL COMPLEX 2006-2015, there will be 100 limited edition boxed sets including both books.
