Mayumi Uchida Announces Graduation From AKB48!

AKB48 5th generation member Mayumi Uchida announced her graduation from the group during a handshake event at Makuhari Messe on August 7, 2015. On the same day, she confirmed the news to the world via a post from her personal Instagram account.

【ご報告】本日、握手会会場にて発表させて頂きましたが私、内田眞由美はAKB48を卒業します。 AKB48として活動した約７年半。あっという間でもあり、すごく長い時間だった気もします。人見知りで勉強もろくにできず夢中になれることもなくただぼーっと生きてるだけだった私の人生を変えてくれたのは、紛れもなくAKB48でした。楽しさや厳しさ、人の温かさ、仲間の大切さ、たくさんの事を経験し学び、内田眞由美という人間をここまで作りあげてくれました。本当に感謝しています。ありがとうございました。これから先、私は芸能活動と経営者としての仕事の両方に力を注いでいきたいと思います。外の世界に出て、自分に出来ることをもっと沢山見つけていきたいです。私はAKBの中で王道アイドルと呼べるような人材ではなかったと思いますが、それなら人と違うことをしよう、自分らしくいよう、と諦めずに今まで活動してきて本当に良かったです。一つも悔いはないです。そんな私を応援し、支えてくれた全ての方に感謝しています。いつまでも皆さんにとって飽きない存在でいられますように。これからも一人の人間として内田眞由美の応援をよろしくお願いいたします。 2015年8月7日内田眞由美

With her hand reaching out to the sun in the picture, Uchida reflected on her 7 years as a member of AKB48, expressing her thanks to the fans and members who have supported and loved her.

Mayumi Uchida joined AKB48 in October 2007 as a 5th generation kenkyuusei alongside Rino Sashihara, Rie Kitahara, Miho Miyazaki, Haruka Ishida, and Rina Chikano. She made senbatsu for “Eien Pressure” (29th single, 2012, semi-finals) and “Chance no Junban” (19th single, 2010, winner) via the Janken Tournament. Uchida opened a yakiniku restaurant in Shinjuku named Iwa (for her rock character that she created after winning the first AKB48 Janken Tournament) in 2014. Uchida plans to keep running Iwa while remaining active in the entertainment business. Her graduation performance with AKB48 has not yet been announced.
