Kamiyado ended a very productive year on the stage of Zepp Diver City on December 28, 2016 for their one-man live “Kami ga Yadoru Basho〜Watashitachi no Mugen no Kanousei wo Shinjitemiyou〜”. It was also an evening which brought with it the announcement of their first national tour which would kick off spring 2017.

After a series of announcements by Hina Koyama from backstage, the lights dimmed and the “kakifu” (舁夫, Kamiyado fans) shouted out in anticipation for the performance to come. The 5 silhouettes of Naho Sekiguchi, Mei Hashima, Mika Ichinose, Miki Hashima, and Hina Koyama illuminated by their colors moved into position behind a curtain as the intro of “Zenkai! KAMIYADO World” blasted from the speakers, the kakifu punctuating each note with a shout. The curtain dropped and a wave of energy burst forth, engulfing the venue as Kamiyado began their historic evening.

Chopping their arms through the air to the bouncing Far Eastern melodies and sinewy guitar lines of “Action”, Kamiyado kept rolling through their set, encouraged by the shouts and furicopy movements of the kakifu as the music seemed to keep accelerating while taking several sudden detours. A web of lasers descended from the rafters as the members of Kamyado rose and fell to the electronic sounds “Parachute☆Love”. Stopping to greet the audience who had made their way out to Odaiba on a Friday evening during the busy holiday season, Kamiyado was beside themselves with excitement as they went through their customary self-introductions. Mei expressed their gratitude for being able to hold their final live of the year at Zepp Diver City before pointing out how their outfits had “evolved” slightly.

Kechas and penlights extended toward the stage as Hina began “Ano ko ni Bareru youna…”, the other members voices also reverberating through the hall as they sang the melancholy song of young love, their skirts fluttering as they spun and walked across the stage. Switching gears dramatically, Kamiyado unleashed the fury of “Genkai Toppa Philosophy”, their fists held high as lasers flashed all around them. Hina Koyama moved to center stage where she began singing “Bokura wa Ai wo Shinjiteru” under a spotlight, the other members moving around her in dramatic fashion, their cries of “Suki da” receiving a roar of “Ore mo!”. Naho shared that she had been nervous about the size of Zepp Diver City but calmed down when she saw all the kakifu smiling back at her. Mei recalled how Kamiyado had to do covers back when they were starting out before explaining the choreography for the next song “Kamchatka Adventure”, their epic genre-hopping 6-minute musical journey.

Swaying and stepping lightly to “Nikushimi toiu Na no Okurimono wa Agenai”, Kamiyado rattled through a series of retro dance moves. Ringing bells and brass horn accents ushered in “Hajimari no Kane wo Narase”, the kakifu called out loudly as the members hopped and skipped across the stage. Mei announced that they had been preparing a new song for the day, explaining the choreography but, adding that the kakifu “would know what to do when the time came”. As promised, the anthemic “Odore! Kamiyado Carnival”, with its mix of funky jazz and dempa-kei elements, grabbed ahold of the kakifu as they clapped, jumped, and shouted along perfectly even though it was their first time to hear it. Miki exclaimed that she was overjoyed that the choreography gave her a chance to show off the flexibility she developed from years of ballet lessons, holding up her leg high above her head in a Y-balance.

The second half of the performance kicked off with “Hissatsu! Cho-KAMIYADO Senpu”, lasers firing all around Kamiyado as the kakifu shouted out a MIX and called out loudly. The live took a turn towards the more sensitive side of Kamiyado again as they continued with “Bi・Bi・Bi♡”, making hearts with their hands and waving to the kakifu. White beams of light shot out from the back of the stage as the members picked up their towels for “Summer Dream”, a blur of swinging terrycloth and moshing kakifu raising the temperatures.

A rainbow of lasers descended on Zepp Diver City as Kamiyado ended their set with a bang, swinging their fists and running around the stage to “Harajuku Sentai! KAMIYADO Ranger”, streamers exploding out onto the audience. As soon as the members left, the giant torii at the back of the stage lit up and the waves of encore claps began.

Running back out to “KMYD”, they were met by the scene of kakifu making the letters K-M-Y-D with their arms. Mei placed her hand on her heart, speaking dramatically when announcing that Kamiyado would be embarking on a national tour in the spring of 2017, performing in Sapporo, Sendai, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Osaka, with the finale taking place at Shinagawa Stellar Ball in Tokyo on April 30th, causing Hina, Naho, and Mika to start dancing in excitement.

“Mirai no Uta”, the sentimental ballad that Kamiyado had debuted at their 2nd anniversary live at Ebisu LIQUIDROOM 2 months prior, closed out the evening, the kakifu waving their hands from side to side as the members sang in unison. Snapping a photo with the audience in the background, Kamiyado thanked the kakifu one last time as they brought down the curtain on 2016.
