Kamiyado capped off another breakthrough year as they took the stage for their 2nd anniversary concert “Kami ga Yadoru Basho〜2-shuunen! Yume no Tobira wo Kojiakeru made〜” at Ebisu LIQUIDROOM on September 28, 2016. It was also the night that they announced that they will be releasing a new single and holding a one-man live at Zepp Diver City on December 28th, their biggest venue yet!
It was a humid evening in Ebisu as the kakifu (舁夫, Kamiyado term for fans) gathered at LIQUIDROOM to celebrate the skyrocketing growth of Kamiyado. The lights dimmed and a video introducing the members as they walked through rainy Tokyo streets played on the screen on the wall to the left of the stage. A 5-colored rainbow of lights shined as the intro music played, the kakifu jumping and waving their penlights to welcome the members to the stage while making the letters K-M-Y-D with their arms, leading into the first song “KMYD”.
Moving right into the next song “Bi・Bi・Bi♡” without stopping, the kakifu called out to Hina Koyama as she sung her opening lines and jumped along with Naho Sekiguchi. Hopping across the stage and swinging their fists, Kamiyado kept the energy building with “Hajimari no Kane wo Narase”. Met by deafening cheers as they stopped to greet the audience, the members of Kamiyado introduced themselves, the floor shaking as the kakifu stomped along with Mei Hashima. Mei proudly announced that just like their 1st anniversary live at Shibuya duo MUSIC EXCHANGE, their 2nd anniversary live was also sold out and urged the kakifu to sweat a lot along with them.
The stage was bathed in pink light as Hina began “Ano ko ni Bareru youna…”, the kakifu throwing their hands forward in kecha. Despite being one of their slower songs, the excitement boiling over as the members blew kisses into the audience. The kakifu moved up and down like the bars on a graphic equalizer along with Kamiyado as the performance continued with the futuristic electro-pop of “Parachute☆Love”. With their feet planted firmly in a wide stance and their elbows flared out dramatically, Kamiyado shifted direction abruptly with the ferocious “Genkai Toppa Philosophy” before taking their second break of the evening to show off their new seifuku-inspired outfits.
The mood lightened up with the breezy “Jonetsu wa Tariteiruka?” and the Shibuya-kei sounds of “Nikushimi toiu Na no Okurimono wa Agenai”. Tugging at the hearts of the kakifu with “Bokura wa Ai wo Shinjiteru”, the members’ calls of “Suki da” were met with a thunderous “Ore mo!” at the end, causing Mika Ichinose to reply with a cool “I love you da ze” in return. With the announcement that they had brought with them a new song for the special occasion, Miki Hashima worried that she would make a mistake while her younger sister Mei taught the kakifu the moves to dance along. “Kamchatka Adventure”, their longest song to date at 6 minutes long, switched between retro rock and metal, featuring an organ solo and Japanese festival chanting.
Having caught their breath, Kamiyado entered the final minutes of their second anniversary live with “Hissatsu! Cho-KAMIYADO Senpu” and moving right into “Zenkai! KAMIYADO World”, the voices of the kakifu shouting out to the intro and hopping from left to right. Even with the hundreds of towels swinging through the air for “Summer Dream”, there was little to dissipate the humidity hanging in the air.
Seeing all the towels held up at the end of the song, Mei exclaimed that it was the best “Summer Dream” ever but had to admit that the next song was the last one. Launching into “Harajuku Sentai! KAMIYADO Ranger”, Kamiyado and the kakifu pumped their fists and banged their heads as they glistened with sweat. Bowing and thanking the kakifu for coming out to see them on their special day, Kamiyado left the stage.
A video played of the members expressing their dissatisfaction about not being able to perform on the Hot Stage of Tokyo Idol Festival 2016 despite it being their first year at the event. However, they would be given their chance at revenge as it was announced that Kamiyado would be holding their next one-man live on December 28th at Zepp Diver City, the same stage they were not able to stand on in August. Kamiyado returned and performed another new song “Mirai no Uta” as the floor area lit up with the kakifu waving cyalumes while lined up in blue, pink, red, green, and yellow columns in front of the stage. Looking out at the shining lights, Mei exclaimed that it looked like a road leading to Zepp Diver City before shouting for the kakifu to get excited for the final, final song of the evening “KMYD”. The kakifu responded with what seemed like even more energy that they began the live with, shouting out the names of the members and their arms cycling through the letters K-M-Y-D.
The good news continued as it was announced that “Kamchatka Adventure” would be released as Kamiyado’s next single on December 6th with “Mirai no Uta” as the coupling song. Second, Kamiyado would be starting a web program on Abema and regular performances at JOL Harajuku. While Zepp Diver City is another challenge for Kamiyado as it accommodates more than 2,000 and they were not able to stand on that stage during Tokyo Idol Festival 2016, given the strength of their performance during their 2nd anniversary live and the size of the crowd they attracted at the Strawberry Stage at Makuhari Messe for the first day of @JAM x Natalie EXPO 2016, it would be wise to believe in the infinite potential of Kamiyado as they step up to their next big challenge.
Here are some more photos from the live provided by Yuusuke Fujimaki. They were too cute to leave out!
The music for “Kamchatka Adventure” and “Mirai no Uta” was composed by SHUN (Seishun Gakuen), who also wrote the lyrics for “Kamchatka Adventure” and arranged both songs with Shinpei. The lyrics for “Mirai no Uta” are by Tatsu Nagai. “Kamchatka Adventure” is the theme song for Kamiyado’s recently released film “Kamiyado Swan” which was directed by Kouhei Nakayama, winner of the 2015 PFF Award for his short film “Shitasaki no Saki”.
