Attention people of New York! Atsuko Maeda (ex-AKB48) will be back in New York this July! Maeda will join director Shuichi Okita to introduce and answer questions about “Mohican Comes Home”, the opening film of Japan Cuts 2016, North America’s largest festival of cutting edge Japanese film!
Maeda plays the pregnant girlfriend of a failed punk rocker played by Ryuhei Matsuda, who returns to hometown deep in the Hiroshima countryside. While the news is initially met with harsh opposition by his strict father, a crisis opens the door for healing. The use of the word “mohican” in the title refers to Matsuda’s mohawk hairstyle, as it is the more commonly used word in Japan. Maeda and Matsuda were also in the 2007 film “The Suicide Song” (伝染歌, Densen Uta) together. “Mohican Comes Home” will be screened on July 14th at 7:00pm so get your tickets as soon as they go on sale June 13th!
Atsuko Maeda will also be releasing her first album “Selfish” on June 22 to celebrate her 5th anniversary as a solo artist since the release of her first single “Flower” in 2011.
