AKB48 & Youkai Watch Collaboration! NyaKB Becomes Reality!

At AKB48‘s 4th Annual Red and White Song Festival (AKB48 Kouhaku Taikou Uta Gassen) at Tokyo Dome City Hall on December 16th, an amazing collaboration between Japan’s national idols and mega-popular game/anime series Youkai Watch was revealed.

Starting January 9, 2015 the anime of Youkai Watch will be getting a new ending theme, performed by a new unit called NyaKB with Tsuchinoko Panda made up of: Jurina Matsui (SKE48/AKB48), Haruka Shimazaki (AKB48), Sakura Miyawaki (HKT48/AKB48), Rena Kato (AKB48), Yuria Kizaki (AKB48), Rina Kawaei (AKB48), and Mako Kojima (AKB48). The 7 members of the unit performed a short version of the song towards the end of the event and were later joined on stage by several of the characters from Youkai Watch.

In the anime, one of the popular characters Jibanyan is a huge fan of a group called NyaKB, a parody of AKB48 and so he was really excited to see that the group was becoming reality. Shimazaki, who had her first voice acting experience on the upcoming Youkai Watch movie ” Eiga Youkai Watch: Tanjou no Himitsu da Nyan!”, seemed to be less enthusiastic. When Jibanyan noted “we really got along well during the recording didn’t we?”, Shimazaki coldly replied, “I had no intentions of getting along”, causing many of the audience members to laugh at her salty response.
