April 6, Saitama – AKB48 held an event, “AKB48 Request Hour Set List Best 200 2014” at Saitama Super Arena.

At the event, fans voted for their favorite songs from AKB48’s repository of singles as well as all musical performances. As is the established practice of previous years, the songs will then be ranked and announced. Yesterday saw the announcement of the ranking results from 1-100 over two sessions – The afternoon show and the evening show.

“Team 8” First Appearance

During the afternoon show, songs that placed in positions 51-100 were announced and performed. In addition to that, the members of the new group “Team 8” was also revealed during the encore. Team 8 members are picked from a group of members, consisting of one delegate from each of the 47 prefectures in Japan. Furthermore, newly formed groups Team K and Team 4 also introduced “RESET” and “LOVE Shugyou” respectively. As a closing act, the entire cast performed “Koisuru Fortune Cookie” together.

The songs ranked 1-50 were announced during the evening show, and reigning in first place is Team 4’s original song, “Seijyun Philosophy”, which dazzled above the rest. Tears welled up in the eyes of Team Captain, Minami Minegishi, as she commented, “It is my good fortune to be able to meet with such a wonderful team”. Members who have graduated also made surprise guest appearances during the evening show. Atsuko Maeda and Tomomi Itano appeared on stage during the song “Omatsuri to Yuu koto de…” and Mariko Shinoda brought the evening to a climax with her rendition of “Ue kara Mariko”, which ranked number 27 in the polls.

Film director Hideo Tanaka also made an announcement in the evening show regarding his upcoming horror film, set to air in 2015. He revealed that all AKB48 members are eligible to audition for the role of the lead actress. Further details regarding the audition will be disclosed at a later date.
