On July 17, Tamiya Corporation has revealed an original short film “The Racer” on The Racer Official Website that closed up to the lives of five Mini 4WD Racers.
Mini 4WD is popular for its battery powered plastic model race car without remote control, and it is also known as mini yonku in Japan. After first sold in 1982, its powerful run and ability to compete with friends gained great popularity in the late 80s and 90s to the point that it became a social phenomenon!
The five characters involve a lonely transfer elementary student, a high school girl who broke up with her boyfriend, an automobile mechanic, a woman in her first year at her company, and a father who just had his son leave the house. This short film illustrates how Mini 4WD affects the lives of these 5 contrasting characters.
The cast acting the 5 racers include Megu from Negicco, Rinne Yoshida、Tomoki Matsuda, Ken Sugawara, and Tatsuo Heidel. The film expresses their inner conflict throughout a monologue, and conveys Tamiya’s thoughts to support those who keep moving forwards like the Mini 4WD.
