What Makes Sayumi Michishige So Legendary? Looking Back at Her 27 Year History!

As of today, July 13th 2016, Sayumi Michishige, ex-Morning Musume.’14 became 27 years old. Even though she graduated from the group on November 26th 2014, she is still left vividly in people minds. The hashtag, #道重さゆみ生誕祭, is currently tweeted more than 30,000 times. Some even calls her the best leader among a long history of Morning Musume.. What makes her so legendary? Here this article introduces a few clues to the question.
Blog
Most members from Hello! Project currently write blogs. However, they once were not permitted to open a blog. Sayumi negotiated with the staff and started a blog in October 2012. Afterwards she cried on her radio program “Konya mo★Usa-chan Peace” seeing other members easily got a permission to hold a blog, which seems that it was a very difficult negotiation for her.
One surprising thing about her blog is that the number of comments even now increases after she stopped writing entries. More than 28,000 comments were sent to her last entry. Her fans deeply love her and look forward to the day of her return.
4329 days
Sayu belonged to Morning Musume. for 4,329 days, which is the longest time among other members. When she joined the group, she could not dance and sing well. Along with the other 6th generation members, Reina Tanaka, Eri Kamei, and Sayu, they were called the worst generation ever. However, with her untiring efforts, she became even a leader of the group.
4,329 days deepened the bonds between her fans. At her Valentine’s Day event, she wrote a message for her fans every year. For the first year, she wrote “ずっと大スキだよ (I love you forever)”. She added “ずっと” every year and she lastly put “ずっと” eleven times! This clearly shows how deeply she cherished her fans.
Last Concert
Her last concert “Morning Musume.’14 Concert Tour Autumn GIVE ME MORE LOVE” was held at Yokohama Arena on November 26th, 2014. In order to see her last stage, the audience for the concert filled the hall to overflowing. Her popularity was not limited in Japan. The live viewing was held also in other countries like Taiwan.
Her right leg unfortunately got injured during a medley for over 20 minutes. She kept performing with a smile on her face but it was obvious that she could not move her right leg anymore. In such a situation, the other members moved to the center stage without Sayu and kept performing as nothing happened. Yet, the other members accomplished this part with overwhelming skills of dancing and singing.
This incident made the audience feel solid comfort with Morning Musume. for after Sayu left the group.
Lastly…
This is just a very few of her legendary episodes. She never shows herself in public after her graduation. We really look forward to seeing her again. Happy Birthday Sayu! We are still in love with YOU!
