Since the sudden departure of DJ HIKARU, MC HIME, and producer Yoshikazu Kuwashima from Rhymeberry in February of 2015, fans were left shook as what was to happen next. The group seemed to have just reestablished itself since the departure of MC YUKA in April of 2014 after the release of their 5th single “IDOL ILLMATIC” in November and their 2nd one-man live at Shinjuku BLAZE “MAGIC PARTY VOL.2” on December 22, 2014.

MC MIRI vowed to keep Rhymeberry going and with new member MC MISAKI (ex-Aither), they had their first performance at Shinjuku MARZ on March 1, 2015 during the “tai-ban” event “Dai 25-kai Idol Kinkyuu Shoushuu”. MC MIRI also went on to form a new unit “8mm” with Hachigatsu-chan from Oyasumi Hologram. Rhymeberry is planning to release their first single under their new formation “MIRRORBALL” in limited quantities towards the end of May. Below is a live video of Rhymeberry performing the song with Fukui prefecture’s Seno Sister at Shinjuku MARZ on May 5, 2015.

During DJ HIKARU’s 17th birthday event “Koyoi mo Minna de Omatsuri-sawagi~Story of the 17th~ Nobuoka Hikaru Seitansai” at Yotsuya LIVE INN MAGIC on May 7th, MC HIME appeared with her on stage and they announced the release of songs that previously had only been performed live and that they would be free to listen to on SoundCloud. They had been working on recording the songs in order to convey the feelings of gratitude to their fans because they didn’t have a graduation concert.

MC HIME’s song “Qualia” is a slow head-nodding track in the style of “backpacker hip hop” that is a departure from the upbeat cute songs of her former group.

DJ HIKARU’s song “Kimi to Boku” is an upbeat electronic dance track which features her vocals which were rarely used when she was behind the turntables in Rhymeberry.

Looking back at the interview that they had with Tokyo Girls Update around the time that “IDOL ILLMATIC” was released, it was unimaginable that Rhymeberry would be like this in 2015. Regardless of how things ended or why they did, we can always remember Rhymeberry how they were and support the projects that the members are doing now because that’s what fans do (unfortunately we were unable to find a Twitter account for DJ HIME so hopefully it is just a matter of time before she returns to the stage).
