Hot Winter Night in Shibuya! Merry Christmas! Gyu-No Fes Live Report

While Christmas in Japan is still marketed heavily as a day for couples and fried chicken, extreme entertainer/farmer/DJ/idol event promoter Gyuzo went against the grain by assembling a diverse cast of idol groups to deck the halls at Shibuya WWW on December 25, 2017 for Merry Christmas! Gyu-No Fes! Despite it being just another work day for most people, presale tickets were sold out and the venue was packed!

PiGU

Neatly dressed in white costumes, PiGU rang the starting bell of the event on the holy night. Their pure and innocent appearances contrary to the songs musically rooted in 80’s and 90’s Japanese rock. They succeed to light a fire on a Christmas cake and in the hearts of the audience.

Task have Fun

Instead of the usual overture, the group brought a special one mixed with “Jingle Bells”. Wearing Santa hats Task have Fun appeared, rushing into “TASK” where their cuteness exploded. The audience reached the peak with their breakthrough song “3WD” which made them one of the most influential idol groups in 2017.

・・・・・・・・・ (Dots Tokyo)

The mysterious girls with their black eye masks shocked the audience at even their first song. The members just danced on the stage to the roaring sounds of “Shoegazer”. They succeeded to set the mood for their own. The intensity of their performance reminded me of a group that disbanded on New Year’s Eve 2016 (BELLRING Girls Heart).

MIGMA SHELTER

Appearing with the intro that the roar of animals and cry of birds are mixed, MIGMA SHELTER went through the performance from beginning to end without stopping. As they refer their songs to psychedelic trance, a low‐pitched rumble shook the audience and even the venue. The audience madly took delight in their crazy music.

Yanakoto Sotto Mute

Fresh off their 2nd one-man live “echoes” at Akasaka BLITZ on December 22nd, Yanakoto Sotto Mute practically flew onto the stage, their white capes fluttering behind them. Their piercing yet etherial vocals floated above a wall of thick distorted guitars and thundering percussion.

BiS

The second coming of BiS returned to a Gyu-No Fes stage for their third time in 2017, putting the pedal to the floor right away with a relentless 8-song set. With the exception of “one day”, BiS kept the energy levels cranked high, closing out with the legendary “nerve”.

GANG PARADE

Longtime MVP of Gyu-No Fes events, GANG PARADE lit up the crowd like a Christmas tree, LED bracelets and LCD screens flashing along with the roar of the “asobinin” (fans) throughout their high-voltage performance. Sandwiched between “GANG PARADE” and “Pretty pretty good”, it was a 7-song variety pack of their cute and powerful songs that had Shibuya WWW shaking the entire time.

As usual, each of the performers received presents from Gyuzo’s home prefecture of Tochigi, this time it was rice and hinoki cutting boards from Yaita city. Additionally, Yoneko of MIGMA SHELTER, who turned 20 on Christmas Eve, was given a bottle of sake. With another year of Gyu-No Fes events ending, it was announced that along with another recording of “Gyuzo to Satosaki Risa no Idol☆Punch” on January 18, 2018, Gyu-No Fes would be returning to Shin-Kiba Studio Coast for the 3rd year in a row on April 8, 2018!
