Mayu Watanabe and Erika Sawajiri to Reveal Forbidden Desires in Historical Drama Ooku!

Mayu Watanabe from AKB48 is taking on her first role in a Japanese historical drama and it is a major one! She will be starring as Oshima, the love interest of the female shogun Omio, played by Erika Sawajiri when “Ooku Dai-Ichi Bu〜Saikyou no Onna〜” airs on January 22, 2016 (10:52pm JST).

When I heard about being cast in “Ooku”, I was really surprised. I had gone to see the film adaptation of it with my family (in 2006) so, I couldn’t believe that I would be able to star in the series one day. I was able to cast out the doubts like, “Is this something I can really do?” so I am really happy to be given this opportunity. I was given the chance to play the chamber maiden Oshima with Erika Sawajiri as Omio. When I first met her I was so nervous that I couldn’t speak but, Sawajiri-san would ask things like, “How old are you ‘Mayuyu’?” and as we spoke more, the nervousness faded away. This is an all-new “Ooku” with Omio meeting various characters and a surprising amount of conflict occurring between them! You won’t be able to look away from the screen! It’s a story full of all kinds of drama so please make sure to watch.
