The AKB48 Group Janken Tournament took on a new twist for 2017 as the members of the various 48 groups formed units to face off in the annual rock-paper-scissors battle, which took place at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya. Following up on the 3rd consecutive victory in the AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo by Rino Sashihara, the top unit was fairy w!nk, a duo made up of HKT48‘s Misaki Aramaki and Hirona Unjo.

Aramaki threw a scissors to defeat the paper of Fuuko Yagura from the duo FuuSae in the finals to claim the privilege of a unit debut. Aramaki also defeated solo unit Kotono Shirai in the semifinals with a rock. Yagura was victorious over Shizuka Oya from the trio Kiss no Tempura (Oya, Miho Miyazaki, and Rie Kitahara).

Those top 4 ranked units will be included on a single which is scheduled to be released on December 13, 2017. FuuSae, Kotono Shirai, and Kiss no Tempura will provide the coupling songs to fairy w!nk, a group inspired by the early 90’s pop group Wink.

For 2017, participants were free to participate in groups ranging from 1 to 16 members with a representative from each unit taking part in the janken part of the tournament.
