Dorothy Little Happy, the 5-member group from Sendai, finished a summer packed with performances at several huge festivals with their largest solo concert to date at Zepp Diver City Tokyo on September 6, 2014 and what a night it was!
Things kicked off with “Breaking through”, a new song to be released on their upcoming mini album, and they continued on with “CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!” which included an explosion of confetti from the ceiling. Before pausing to greet the packed house, they performed another new song “In My Life・For My Life”.
Dorothy Little Happy slowed things down a bit with “Dokoka Tsuretteitte” before launching into the encouraging upbeat songs “Akiramenaide” and “life goes on”. The first half of the set came to a close with their 5th single “Kaze yo Hayaku”, “ASIAN STONE” (8th single), another new song “Shuumatsu Dake no Romeo to Juliet”, and “Story” before they walked off stage.
A 4-piece band which included drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards/DJ appeared on the stage shortly after and performed an fiery instrumental jam and got the crowd riled up for what was to come shortly after. Dorothy Little Happy had been compiling requests from fans for which songs they wanted to see them perform with a live band and that wish was granted! Starting off with the uptempo soul-inspired “Soul 17”, Dorothy Little Happy, aided by their backing band, twirled and glided through their standards “colorful life”, “COLD BLUE”, “Koi wo Shiteru Kitto”, and “STARTING OVER”.
After “Koi no Hanabi” the keyboardist began playing “Happy Birthday” as an early surprise for RUUNA, who was turning 18 on Monday. The other 4 members and the entire audience sang along as they waved purple cyalume that they had received when they entered. After a brief cake and bouquet presentation, the performance continued on with the RUUNA-centric “Koi wa Hashiridashita”. No Dorothy Little Happy performance would be complete without their cover of BiS’ “nerve” and the backing band turned up the funk as the fans attempted to dance along despite the crowded conditions. Ending the set with “Demo Sayonara”, Dorothy Little Happy returned for an encore which included their 1st single “Jump!” and another new song, “Kore wa Chiisa na Sora Datta”.
Fighting back tears of happiness, KANA thanked the crowd for making such a night possible, “For us to be able to have such a concert like this is truly thanks to everyone coming to see us” (Watashitachi no raibu ga dekiru nante, hontou ni koko ni kite itadaita mina-san no okage desu).
In addition to their upcoming 7-song mini album to be released on November 19th, Dorothy Little Happy announced that they would have having a tour in December.
