Cheeky Parade was the first Japanese artist ever to perform on the main stage of New York’s biggest Rock Festival CBGB Music Festival, and after stirring up enthusiasm in New York, their restless activity schedule has been quite astonishing!
Cheeky Parade came out to Tsukiji Fish Market on November 2nd (Sunday) and participated in the Fish-1 Grand Prix, a fish festival highlighting Japan’s seafood industry. They appeared as “Fish Pride Cheerleaders”, with an announcement of a live performance the following day. Having a serious idol group’s live held at Tsukiji Market was a rare first. Besides this, they also performed “Osakana Tengoku” (“Fish Heaven”) with a school of yurukyara mascot fish.
Following their appearance, Cheeky Parade immediately moved from Tsukuji Market to Shibuya. They collaborated to promote the brand gonoturn with masks and other original items in the concept of “Cute is Justice!!” With their last tour stop in New York, the Shibuya 109 Men’s VANQUISH store was packed with fans from the tour, which the the group handed out limited edition zip up hoodie purchases to. Putting the group’s costumes on display to coincide with the event, it was as if Cheeky Parade had hijacked the store. The masks and hoodies on sale had the kanji characters「恥威鬼韋」, which phonetically spell “cheeky”, written on them.
From their Tsukiji Market performance the next day to their numerous fashion events coming up, Cheeky Parade are really making a wide range of appearances. The group also attended the JAPAN POP CULTURE Carnival 2014 in MATSUDO the following day on the 3rd. Just like the festival’s name suggests, it looks like Cheeky Parade is soon to be a leader amongst Japan pop culture advocates!
