Use the Force Paruru! AKB48 Reveal Epic Action-Packed MV for “Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai”!

AKB48 has released the MV for what may be their biggest selling single of 2015, “Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai” (release date: May 20). The video was screened for the first time on April 22nd at a special talk event at Shinjuku Wald 9 movie theaters attended by the director of the video, Keishi Ohtomo (Ruroni Kenshin, Ryomaden) and AKB48 members Haruka Shimazaki, Yuki Kashiwagi, Yui Yokoyama, and Rena Kato.

Even though the title “Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai” translates to “We will not fight”, as expected of the director of the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy, there are many amazing action scenes. Of particular note is how Jurina Matsui tries her best to take out as many of the enemies as she can and Haruka Shimazaki fighting in the most stoic way possible. Shimazaki commented that the director Ohtomo told her just do it in her own way, which explains the cool nature that she went about her intense action scenes.

Set in a post apocalyptic future world, there are also white versions of the members wearing angel wings, and another version of them wearing desert gear. Are the three different versions some kind of symbolism? If the pink blades used by the enemies aren’t light sabers, are they some kind of pen light blade? Are they wota who have been retrained by the forces of evil? Wait a second, it looks like there are more versions of them! What the heck is that thing that looks like a bird supposed to be? One thing is certain, it might be one of the most epic AKB48 MVs released so far!

“Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai” will be sold in 4 limited edition versions and 4 regular versions. Type-A, Type-B, and Type-C will have “Summer side” by Selection 16 as the coupling song. The third track for Type-A is “‘Danshi’ wa Kenkyuu Taishou” by Tentoumu Chu!, “Kafka to Dendenmu Chu!” by Dendenmu Chu! for Type-B, and “Kegareteiru Shinjitsu” by Team 8 Senbatsu for Type-C. Type-D has “Bare Bare Bushi”, the current theme song for the WONDA Coffee commercials, by WONDA Senbatsu and “Kimi no Dai-ni Shou”, the graduation song for Rina Kawaei, as the coupling songs. All 8 versions include DVDs which have the MVs for the 3 songs on each of the different CDs. The limited edition versions come with an event ticket and the regular versions come with a randomly selected “nama shashin” (bromide).

As if that wasn’t enough, each copy of “Bokutachi wa Tatakawanai” includes a code which you can use to vote for your favorite member in the 2015 AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo which will determine who will appear on the songs for the 41st single.
