Vanilla Beans‘ new single “Uchouten Girl” (“Ecstasy Girl”) is going to be released on November 11.
The writer is Daisuke Inoue, ex-member of influential Japanese band Blue Comets and composer of such songs as “Ni Oku Yonsenman no Hitomi” (Hiromi Go), “Gakuen Tengoku” (Finger 5), and “ME Gumi no Hito” (RATS & STAR). The tune itself is an unpublished original piece he wrote for the incredibly popular 80’s girl duo Wink. This treasured song has had new life breathed into it by Vanilla Beans.
The reason this song has been offered up is owing to Vanilla Bean’s Rena having a great love for Daisuke Inoue’s music. During consultation about the band’s next recording, Rena, who sung his “ME Gumi no Hito” for a certain radio program’s corner, made an impassioned approach to Mr. Inoue through staff after learning about the original song he wrote for Wink in the 80’s.
Thematically the song’s executed as a 2014-version fight song; the jacket design incorporates a call back to 80’s idol fashion. It’ll be paired with a recording of Mr. Inoue’s hit song “Kiss wa Me ni Shite, Po!”, made back in the 80’s for a Kanebo Cosmetics commercial.
Regarding making this challenge to the 80’s revival, Rena commented, “We’re really happy we can be singing Mr. Inoue’s song as a Vanilla Beans original, and I hope that this song, which is themed as a “fight song”, can become music for even just one person supporting lots of others from behind.”
The music of the 80’s, the golden era of idol culture, is even now still being sung by many. Vanilla Beans stand have inherited the hidden will of that era and proposed it into this one with a new sense of value. So, why not enjoy a wonderful little trip in the time machine?
