Aya Goto, founding member of idol group SUPER☆GiRLS, shocked fans at Tokyo Dome City Hall with a graduation announcement during the encore of the daytime show for SUPER☆GiRLS LIVE 2015 on January 10th.
As soon as Aya Goto put the microphone to her mouth to speak, her voice trembled as she struggled to get out the words. Blinking back tears, she talked about the ups and downs she had as an idol but, considered her time in the group to have been a good experience. Having found a new dream to work towards, she declared that she would graduate from SUPER☆GiRLS and retire from the entertainment industry at the end of March.
Despite the tears rolling down her cheeks as she revealed her decision to the audience, she emphasized that she wants to keep smiling along with everyone until her final day as an idol. Leader Rika Shimura commented that the rest of the group had decided to support Goto’s decision and do all they could to help her on her way to her new dream. Fans, who had only minutes before been waving their orange penlights (Goto’s color is “Mandarin Orange”) furiously to SUPER☆GiRLS’ new single “Gira Gira Revolution”, were brought to tears. Even though they had known of this decision for a while, the members of SUPER☆GiRLS, particularly Ruka Mizote, became emotional when they heard Goto’s announcement.
