November 11th is known as “Pocky day” in Japan as Pocky, thin biscuits represent the repeated number 1 in the numerical date. (11/11) Pocky is chocolate-coated biscuit sticks and also sold as “Mikado” in Europe. You can see a lot of posts people eating Pocky on social media to celebrate our beloved Pocky.
But the truth is, POCKY DAY IS NOT JUST FOR POCKY. Officially, it is “Pocky and Pretz day”.
Pretz is pretzel sticks products from the same manufacturer of Pocky, Ezaki Glico. And the company is mentioning it clearly on their website.
However, since Ezaki Glico started promoting “Pocky and Pretz Day” on 2000, people have started to focus on only Pocky, not Pretz. The thing is, even Ezaki Glico is featuring Pocky more than Pretz obviously.
Pretz are not happy with this situation. In addition, Pretz is Pocky’s senpai. (Pretz was born in 1963 and Pocky in 1969) To complain all this inequality, a special website of “Pretz’s feeling” was released.
The message starts from super negative sentences saying, “The day has come again this year. For me, Pretz, it’s the most painful day in a year.”
Pretz even mentions that he prefers 11/11 as Pocky day officially. So negative.
If you want to cheer Pretz senpai, please tweet with hashtag #プリッツがんばって. You action might make poor Pretz senpai happy!
