After their dazzling Tokyo Idol Festival debut in 2016, NGT48 were back for their second appearance at the biggest idol festival in the world on August 6, 2017!
The Niigata-based group invaded the HOT STAGE wearing their bright crimson dresses to the familiar sounds of “Overture”, surprising the fans with the unannounced presence of Yuki Kashiwagi as well as the full Kenkyuusei line-up of the group, as they had not been at Tokyo Idol Festival the year before.
Yuka Ogino, now relatively well-known for historically taking the 5th spot in the 2017 AKB48 Senbatsu Sousenkyo, stood in the center position for the emblematic “AKB Sanjou!”, taken from AKB48’s Team A’s 5th stage, transforming it into “NGT Sanjou!” for this special occasion. This introduction could only heat up the crowd a little more, as the fans were already burning after the performance of SKE48 who had just left the stage a few minutes prior!
The unforgettable summer classic “Ponytail to Shushu” followed, and after a short introduction talk by the members, the first chimes of “Seishun Tokei” rang through the air. Rika Nakai moved over to the center spot for the performance of NGT48’s first major single.
The surprises continued as captain Rie Kitahara then introduced the next song as a first in the Tokyo area, “Hokori no Oka”, from their very first original stage currently performed at their Niigata theater! Team NIII took position for the brand-new “Yasashisa ni Hamaerarenai”. The Kenkyuusei took the spotlight with AKB48’s 31st single kenkyuusei song “Love Shugyou”, followed by the popular and uplifting “Kimi no koto ga Suki Dakara”.
The second talk was also brief, Yuka Ogino thanked the fans for waiting for them despite the unbearable midsummer heat. The performance ended on a high note with the iconic “MAX Toki 315 Go”, the top ranking song for AKB48 Request Hour Setlist Best 100 2017.
Once again, NGT48’s spirit refreshed the crowd in the middle of the blazing Japanese summer heat. Niigata can be proud of their 48 Group, and hopefully they will return again in 2018!
