Saga Prefecture has launched a new multilingual mobile app “DOGANSHITATO?” (Saga dialect for “May I help you?”) and has released a breathtakingly beautiful commercial to commemorate the occasion.

The soft rays of sunlight peeking their way between the leaves on the trees, steam slowly rising; these are the some of images closely tied to the Japanese onsen. Carefully placing their sandals at the entrance of the bath and removing their soft cotton yukata, a slender figure with flowing black hair pours the soothing hot spring water over their smooth fair skin. Accompanied by music that sounds like it was composed by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception), you can really feel the overwhelming power of nature!

Putting their hair up in a topknot (Chonmage), this seems like a slightly unusual woman but, the camera quickly shifts to reveal a man’s face! What is this sorcery?!? For those of you who watched the whole video even after noticing the lack of breasts on the actor, perhaps you were hoping it would be something like our feature on the feast exhibition for smaller-breasted women? Or maybe you thought it was starring an idol like Sae Miyazawa who is famous for her boyish charms and played the male main character in the AKB49 musical?

Even though we used the word “Japanese beauty” in the title, you shouldn’t have assumed that it meant a female. While the bulk of our content is about Japanese girls, from time to time we acknowledge that boys in Japan want to be cute and pretty too! For example, there were those cute boys from Halloween in Shibuya that we met, and of course, the cutest of them all, Sailor Fuku Ojisan!

At any rate, the commercial got your attention didn’t it? If you have ever seen one of those “Japanese commercials” before, you should know to expect the unexpected! Saga might not be one of the most famous places in Japan but, with marketing tactics like this, it might end up world famous very soon! DOGANSHITATO? is available on Google Play and Apple App Store in Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, and Thai so why not get it before you come to Saga and experience a traditional Japanese onsen?
