Mari Mizuta is relaunching her career, this time as a self-produced idol but, there is so much more that she has planned!

Izukoneko (2011-2014)

Izukoneko (2011-2014)

From 2011 until 2014, she was active as cat idol Izukoneko while being produced by Kenta Sakurai (current producer of Maison book girl) before joining her friend Saki Kamiya (ex-BiS) to form Pla2me. Under the management of Junnosuke Watanabe (ex-BiS), the duo made a quick first impression with their energetic first performance at Tokyo Idol Festival 2014. However, things were not meant to last as Mari announced her intention to leave Pla2me in a blog entry posted on April 1st. Mari and Saki went their separate ways after their final live as Pla2me on May 31st at Takamatsu MONSTER in Kagawa prefecture.

Mari explained the reasoning behind using her name for her new project since “Mizuta Mari” can also mean “rain puddle” in Japanese. “A puddle is something left behind when the sun comes out after it stops raining.” It’s a metaphor for how Mari has arrived at her current situation after experiencing the ups and downs of being Izukoneko and a member of Pla2me. The first line in the “About” section of her new website reads, “If it rains too much, it will overflow. If it’s too sunny, it will get dry. Miraculously without disappearing, I stay steady.”

In addition to producing her own music, Mari expressed her desire to organize events, create projects, as well as being open to collaborate with others on projects, which may include being a vocalist for a band, or modeling. Mari’s first performance as a self-produced soloist will be the Mizuta Mari Fukkatsu-sai at Loft Plus One West in Osaka on July 22nd. Given Mari’s years of experience in the idol world and commitment to learning (she is attending art college in Kyoto), it should be exciting to see what kind of fascinating projects she will be involved with from now on!
