Karat☆, the group that existed to cheer people on, were the bearers of depressing news to their fans when they announced that the group would be disbanding after 3 years.

In the announcement posted on their official website, the office representative explained that due to restructuring, it had become exceedingly difficult to keep Karat☆ going and that all their previously scheduled events and performances, even their long-awaited first album had been cancelled. Due to the sudden nature of the announcement, plans were being made to have a final disbandment event in June to allow the fans and members to properly say farewell to each other.

The tweet which bore the title “Karat☆ disbandment notification” was retweeted over 950 times and was met with shock and disbelief. The press often refers to this current time where idols seem to be everywhere in Japan as the “Warring States Period of Idols” and with the imminent disbandment of Karat☆, the war seems to have claimed another casualty. Due to the unpredictable nature of the idol industry and the uncertain state of the economy, if you have an interest in a group or artist, support them because you never know when they will be gone. On the bright side, the members of Karat☆ are young enough that if they decide to keep pursing their dreams of being idols, there is a chance you may see them again?

Here is a partial summary of the MVs for the singles that Karat☆ released in their 3-year history as listed on their YouTube channel. There is no MV for their 2nd single “Berry Berry! Ice Cream!”.

“Ima wo Ikiru” 5th single (release date: January 21, 2015)
