HKT48 Ends First National Tour at Yokohama Arena! Rino Sashihara to Direct HKT48 Documentary!

June 28th, 2015 marked the final day of HKT48’s Yokohama 2DAYS performance and the final day of the group’s first nation-wide tour, titled “HKT48 Zenkoku Tour ~Zenkoku Toitsu Owattoran Ken~, which first kicked off in September of last year.

The tour consisted of performances in 20 places, with around 80,000 attendees, and 24,000 fans gathered for yesterday’s second 2DAYS performance. Much like the first day’s performance, huge dinosaurs and a brass band made up of the group’s members took the stage, and Rino Sashihara’s appearance onstage in a swimsuit really got the audience going.

Mio Tomonaga, although attempting to perform the scene where she gets eaten by dinosaurs during the classical play portion of the concert, unfortunately showed that she’s not much of an actor. She later admitted during the MC that her performance was the worst of the three, saying that instead of letting herself get eaten she went inside the dinosaur’s mouth willingly.

Second draft understudy Vivian Murakawa was the unit song center making her stage debut the first day but during the afternoon performance on the second day. Hana Matsuoka armed herself with her skilled dance moves and delivered a dance number performance with Rino Sashihara and Aika Ota, and during the evening performance Haruka Kodama and Sakura Miyawaki sang “MARIA”, which coincidentally is the name of the member who was the center for the song, 11-year old Maria Imamura, the youngest member of HKT48.

The group also performed as a brass band again. Madoka Moriyasu, given the role of conductor, revealed that most of the girls were beginners at their instruments, commenting, “I-chan (Aoi Motomura) practiced six hours a day,” which was met with warm applause from the audience.

During the band corner that followed, solo performances by Motomura on drums, Emily Yamashita on guitar, and Chihiro Anai on bass were met with tons of excitement during the band’s cover of BOØWY’s “ONLY YOU”.

Acknowledging that it was the tour final, Sashihara spoke out, “Today our long tour comes to an end. Thank you for carrying us to such a large stage with your support! Next we hope you’ll carry us to the Yahoo!Auction Dome!” and was met with loud cheers.

Following the afternoon performance, an announcement was suddenly displayed on screen that there would be a Hakata-za Theatre performance of the Rino Sashihara Chairman Performance, following the one that ran from April 8 – 23, 2015 at Meiji-za in Tokyo. Members from last performance will make another appearance, and auditions will be held to choose new members to appear as well. The opening date will be August 15th. After the evening encore performance of “Suki! Suki! Skip!” the venue suddenly became dark and fans stirred as a video began to play. It revealed that the 2015 scheduled release announced last year in November, (tentatively titled) DOCUMENTARY OF HKT48, would be directed by Rino Sashihara.

At the announcement, members showed their surprise with cries of, “Really?!” and “This can’t be true, right?!” and Sashihara being selected for this big opportunity, spiritedly replied, “I only just heard about this myself and wondered what am I going to do… This time I’m going from a chairman to a director! I want to make a very real movie like no other group has done, and although I’m nervous, I hope you’ll all look forward to my first directorial work!”

HKT48’s first nation-wide tour with 28 performances in over 20 areas came to a close with Rino Sashihara suddenly donning a swimsuit to perform “Soredemo Suki da yo” as part of the final, double encore.
