AKB48 Mariko Shinoda Will Graduate From Group After Fukuoka Dome Performance Next Month

Mariko Shinoda of AKB48 made an announcement during the ballot-counting event at “AKB48 32nd Single Senbatsu General Election”, which took place at the Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa on June 8th, that she will be be graduating from the group.

Shinoda ranked 5th in the General Election. “I gave a speech last year challenging the junior members to crush me,” Shinoda commented upon hearing the news, “and I was able to see many of them working hard in the past year. I felt that AKB can continue to rise higher.”
“Seeing the momentum of the junior members, I chose to make a decision myself. I, Mariko Shinoda, will graduate from AKB48,” she continued, making a sudden announcement to graduate from the group. “Seeing the backs of the junior members felt promising. I truly have no regrets in AKB48,” Shinoda said, revealing her true feelings, causing the crowd to chant her name to which she shed a few tears.
She then announced, “I have wanted to graduate in my hometown, so although I know that it’s so sudden, I ask that you allow me to graduate after the concert at the Fukoka Dome next month.”

At the end she said to her fans with a smile, “I believe that the AKB group can continue to aim higher. I want them to keep working hard for a hundred years. I was only able to continue my life in AKB48 because of my fans. My fans are my cherished treasures. Thank you.”
Shinoda will graduate from the group after the AKB48 concert at the Fukuoka Yahuoku! Dome in Fukuoka on July 20th, and the 21st.
