Tomioka Dance Club: Cute High School Student’s Incredible &Unique Performance!

The Greatest Showman is going to be on theaters from February 16^th this year, and Tomioka High School Dance Club (TDC) was chosen as the Promotion Ambassador of the movie in Japan! They released a featured video taken at their high school with great dance moves in their actual uniform.

So, what is Tomioka High School Dance Club and why are they so famous? The high school is located in Osaka, and their dance club had been very famous for the dynamic performance. They won 1^st place in “青春！ダンススタジアム全て見せます！高校ダンス日本一決定戦” (Blue Spring! Dance Stadium Showing Everything! All Japan High School Dance Contest) in 2015 and 2016 and 2^nd place in 2017. Their unique and nostalgic performance became a hot topic, and they were invited to perform at Music Station with Youko Oginome who was singing their theme song “Dancing Hero (Eat You Up)”. This is the performance which fascinated everyone!

Do you feel a little nostalgic watching this? For Japanese, it is very nostalgic because the theme is the bubble economy period when everyone was dressed in glittery skirts, and their hair was long and curly. The song “Dancing Hero (Eat You Up)” was a hit song during that period.

What attracts attention to TDC other than their beautiful dance moves is that each dance perfromance has a unique theme. For the contest in 2016, their theme was “Obachan”. Because they are from Osaka, they expressed typical aunties in that area. akane is the team coach who is also a graduate of the high school. She designed the dance movements and teaches the students very strictly. She also designs the dance moves for TV commercials and more.

Because TDC became so popular, Rikka Ihara, the former captain of the club was recruited to FOSTER office which Suzu Hirose also belongs to. She hopes to pursue her career as an actress.
