Tokyo Game Show 2016 returns to Makuhari Messe this weekend and while many game/technology sites are buzzing about Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, Tales of Berseria, Resident Evil (Biohazard) 7, Gravity Daze, and Persona 5, or the latest advancements in VR, we at Tokyo Girls’ Update aren’t going to even try and pretend we know what we’re talking about when it comes to that.

Similar to our past coverage of events like Comiket and COSHOLIC, our focus is on the lovely young ladies who are there. For those like-minded individuals, here are some things to look forward to as well as some pictures.

In addition to cosplay areas near Halls 9-10, Cosplay Collection Night @TGS sponsored by Cure is back on September 17th starting at 6:30pm. Also e-Sports stages will be held throughout September 17th and 18th.

When it comes to photographing booth girls (known as “companion” コンパニオン in Japanese) or cosplayers, remember to be polite. Even if you don’t speak Japanese, you can get their attention to pose for you by raising your hand and smiling before taking your shots. If there are a lot of people crowded in front of her, be patient and wait your turn. Sure, you might be able to peek over someone’s shoulder and get a shot but, it’s not as special as having them pose just for your camera.

Once you have taken your photos, thank the booth girl/cosplayer and move out of the way for the next person. If they are handing things out, take them because they are at Tokyo Game Show to promote their booth, not just for you take pictures of them. Some of you with more courage may want to have your picture taken together but, remember to be respectful. They are not one of those VR display mannequins!

For all of you heading out to Makuhari Messe for Tokyo Game Show this weekend, remember to be patient because it will be crowded and you aren’t the only one waiting to play a game or photograph a cosplayer. Don’t forget to charge your Suica or Pasmo because Keihin-Makuhari Station will be packed! Stay alert because there will be a lot of people walking in every which way possible. Have fun and be safe! More reports coming soon!
