Rika Mayama of Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku to make her solo debut as a Anime-song singer!
Rika Mayama of Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku will make her solo debut with “Liar Mask,” the second-quarter opening theme song of anime TV series “Akame ga Kiru!”
This was announced via a Ustream broadcast yesterday, September 1. A completely unaware Mayama was told about her debut mid-broadcast by a series staff member who had suddenly appeared. Showing a complicated mix of surprise at the sudden announcement and excitement due to her love for anime, Mayama accepted the news with delight. Shortly after she told her mother via telephone: “I know you don’t know anime, Mom, but it’s “Akame ga Kiru!” The one with Yukarin!” This is the nickname for Yukari Tamura, an anime voice actress who Mayama adores. She could barely contain her excitement and joy knowing that she would be the anime song singer for one of her idol’s shows.
After that, Mayama moved to another studio for a photo shoot as a solo artist. Surrounded by press whenever she wasn’t having her photo taken, she explained that even though the announcement was a surprise, “I knew it wasn’t a joke because there were so many adults (i.e. staff).” Mayama excitedly continued: “In order not to tarnish the good name of the anime or the good name of Ebi-Chu, and also for my own sake, I want to sing with all my heart.” Speaking about her new role as an anime song singer, she said “I really want to sing solo at an anime song concert.” Speaking about her aims from now on, Mayama said “My goal is to sing at Animelo Summer Live. This year’s has already passed, but I hope I can keep singing anime songs beyond just this one.”
Rika Mayama’s solo debut “Liar Mask” goes on sale November 26. It will serve as the new opening theme song for anime TV series “Akame ga Kiru!” from its second-quarter start in October.
