It was announced on November 17, 2017 via the official site of The Idol Formerly Known as LADYBABY that Rei Kuromiya would be withdrawing from the group. Additionally, the tour that was scheduled to begin on November 25th would be suspended.
Kuromiya had been dealing with a throat condition that made performing difficult, leading to the decision for her to leave The Idol Formerly Known as LADYBABY. Details on the future of the group will be released at a later date.
In a statement attached to the announcement, Kuromiya deeply apologized for the sudden news, explaining that forcing herself to continue performing in her condition could potentially endanger her life as a vocalist. She added that she had felt that her personality was not suited to being an idol and that she wanted more freedom. Apologizing again for disappointing everyone, she thanked them for allowing her to be an idol.
Rie Kaneko apologized while looking back at the year since she and Rei made their comeback as a duo, expressing her feelings that LADYBABY was something that only the 2 of them could have done. She shared that she was at a loss upon hearing the news and had been seriously considering quitting as well as she felt that it was futile to continue without Rei. However, she also felt that it would be a waste to leave after all the work that they had put into building up LADYBABY and all the love they had received from fans. Kaneko asked for the fans to give her time to work through her feelings and make a decision on what she would do. She closed by apologizing to the fans for the tour being suspended.
