MAX Brighten Up The Chainsmokers’ Viral Hit “#Selfie” With the Help of Hyadain!

MAX (Musical Active eXperience) seems committed to not stopping as they have revealed the MV for their 20th anniversary single “#SELFIE 〜ONNA Now〜” (release date: July 22). It is a cheerful cover of the viral hit “#SELFIE” by EDM group The Chainsmokers.

MAX is a dance group from Okinawa who debuted as Super Monkey’s during the early 1990’s with Namie Amuro as one of the members. After Amuro made her solo debut, 4 of the members formed MAX and went on to become one of the biggest selling female groups in Japan with their Eurobeat-influenced sound.

In contrast to the social commentary of The Chainsmokers version, MAX seems to be playing up the fun aspect of selfies, even being joined by Hyadain in the studio as they strike all kinds of poses for the smartphone on their selfie stick. Seeing them being so silly and girlish should serve as a reminder that getting older is not a reason to stop being fun!

“#SELFIE 〜ONNA Now〜” is the 4th single in a row for MAX that is a cover and will be sold in a CD/DVD version and a CD-only version. Details on the contents have not yet been released.

With the sudden departure of Mina in 2002, her return in 2008, and absence of Reina since the birth of her second child in 2013, this is a very different group than is used to be.
