Harajuku Dreams Come True! Kamiyado 3rd Anniversary Live Report

Kamiyado celebrated their 3rd anniversary with Kami ga Yadoru Basho〜HARAJUKU DREAM〜, a 2-day live at La Foret Harajuku on September 23-24, 2017! With posters lining the Takeshita Street exit at JR Harajuku Station, videos playing along the streets and even a live viewing set up at JOL Harajuku, it was a weekend befitting the group that had been scouted mere footsteps away from the venue located in the Tokyo district world renowned as a mecca of fashion and youth culture.

After an introduction video, which was different on each day, showing the history of Kamiyado as well as the members dramatically making their way through Harajuku on the way to La Foret, the performance began, the “kakifu” (舁夫, Kamiyado fans) erupting with excitement as the overture played.

Running through a mix of their uptempo and slower more delicate songs, including an a capella version of “Genkai Toppa Philosophy”, Kamiyado debuted 2 new songs, one on each of the days. “Life is Yappa Beautiful!” which was revealed on September 23rd, is a hyperactive tune created by the Wicky.Records collective.

The second day brought with it “Hoshizora Kaerimichi” another Wicky.Records creation. Although slower in tempo, it had the kakifu excitedly waving their hands along with the members on stage right away.

Closing out the sets of both days with their energetic and uptempo songs, including the popular “Summer Dream”, Kamiyado were called back to the stage by encore calls which began right as soon they left the stage.

The encore for both days began with a fashion show with the members making their way down the runway in looks by Ank Rouge (Mika), SPINNS (Mei), NICE CLAUP (Miki), Heather (Naho), and Nile Perch (Hina). Throwing presents into the audience and showing off their stylish autumn looks, Kamiyado delighted female and male kakifu alike.

The first announcement of the encore was the rerelease of their first album “Harajuku Hatsu! KAMIYADO desu.” alongside the release of their second album “Harajuku! Chaku! KAMIYADO desu.” on November 14th on their Kamitou label. Rerecorded versions of the original songs as well as the 2 new songs “Nikushimi toiu Na no Okurimono wa Agenai” and “Jōnetsu wa Tariteiruka?” will be included on the rerelease of “Harajuku Hatsu! KAMIYADO desu.”. The second album “Harajuku! Chaku! KAMIYADO desu.” will include “Life is Yappa Beautiful!” and “Hoshizora Kaerimichi”. The second announcement was news of another national tour KAMIYADO Zenkoku Tour 2017-2018 ~Hajimemashite!KAMIYADO desu.~.

Even after Kamiyado left the stage and the end credits began to play, the kakifu were still full of energy, waving their penlights and singing along to “KMYD”.

For Kamiyado to come from being scouted on the streets of Harajuku 3 years earlier to becoming a group able to have a 2-day live at La Foret and collaborate with many popular brands for a fashion show is quite an accomplishment. It should be exciting to see where they go from here!
