SENTO GIRL is photo project aiming to show you the renaissance of Sento through the collaboration of these wonderful creators! For the 4th series, we welcomed Yuho Uchida as model. (See the vol.1 here)
Sento are public bathhouses which have been a part of Japanese culture for centuries and it may be worlds away from a lot of the latest Japanese culture usually featured on Tokyo Girl’s Update, but with the cooperation of TOKYO SENTO, we have begun our journey into the unique and comforting world of Sento.

We have visited Aizen-yu located in Itabashi-ku, and one of the most notable features of this Sento is, the drawing of heavenly maiden on the wall inside the bath. Yuho’s costume also looks like heavenly maiden, isn’t it? In the picture below, it feels like Yuho is melting into the wall paint as one of the heavenly maidens.
These photos are the result of a collaboration between model Yuho Uchida, photographer and Miss iD 2016 semifinalist mitfo, hair make-up artist hitomi, and stylist KAKO MIYAKE. The costume Yuho wearing is hand-made by KAKO MIYAKE. It completely matches to Yuho’s gentle atmosphere and this Sento’s color usage.
We challenge making Sento into completely another world by gathering the girls’ creators’ power. So…the combination of Sushi and Sento works?
In the vol.1 of the series, we focued on the entrance and outside of the bath, here in vol.2 we featured more inside of the bath, and in the last vol.3 we will show pictures Yuho in the bath!
Although you might have a image that Sento is mostly local old people, however, according to people from Tokyo Sento we collaborated with, the number of young people going to Sento has been increasing recently. We hope we can help the movement to grow more with SENTO GIRL project!
