Satisfy Your Seafood Cravings With Fresh Fish From Ichiyama Ikesu in Choshi!
The city of Choshi in Chiba prefecture is known for its soy sauce, boasting quite a number of soy sauce factories. In a previous trip report, our girls Kumiko Funayama and Hikari Shiina even visited one of these factories.

We’re sure many of you would agree with us when we say that the one food that goes best with soy sauce, is fish! Choshi city just so happens to face the Pacific Ocean and is thus famous for being a port town that harbors a variety of fish. With that, our girls took a moment to grab a bite to eat at Ichiyama Ikesu after their visit to the soy sauce factory.
Ichiyama Ikesu is located just a short distance from the sea and is well known as a great spot for eating fresh fish. It has a Japanese-style interior, with most of the seating being “seiza style”; where you must take off your shoes and go up to a slightly higher level to sit down. In the center of the room there is a fish tank called “Ikesu” in Japanese, which is where fish are scooped up via a net once an order is received.
Kumiko and Hikari were so absorbed with the layout of the restaurant! After asking one of the restaurant staff which dishes they recommend, the girls put through their order.
The first dish that arrived was one of Ichiyama Ikesu’s most famous dishes, the “Ise-ebi ten-don” (in English, the deep-fried spiny lobster rice bowl”)! The girls were pleasantly surprised at just how splendidly the ten-don was served!
After this, the girls then ordered the “Kinmedai no nitsuke” (in English, the “simmered splendid Alfonsino in sweetened soy sauce”). This is apparently the current market value called “Jika(時価)” in Japanese.
After having their fill, our girls headed out the door and straight to the sea! Then, they gave their utmost appreciation to the fish for the meal they just had! We’re confident that you will feel the same happiness that our girls felt if you visit, so please be sure to stop by at Ichiyama Ikesu to enjoy all of the delicious fish it has to offer!
