Have a Magnificent Experience of a Life Time within the Big City at “ESCALADE” in Shinjuku!
Lately, the thrilling sport of bouldering is one of the key sports that have hit a huge boom, but have you tried it yet? Just by taking a stroll around Tokyo, you’ll notice that the number of bouldering gyms has visibly increased. What’s more is that there are said to be over 100 of them already in Tokyo alone.
Bouldering comes from the word “boulder”, which means big rock in English, and is one form of rock climbing that involves climbing up and down short cliffs and man-made walls without the use of harnesses or ropes. This can all be done within the limits of the bouldering gym and because you don’t need anything special to get started, the number of competitors in this adventurous sport is increasing.
With that said, our girls Kumiko Funayama, Ai Matsumoto and Hikari Shiina visited a bouldering gym to experience this exciting sport that is taking Tokyo by storm. On this trip, our girls visited a bouldering gym in Shinjuku, known as “ESCALADE”. Upon entering the gym, you’ll notice that everything from the walls to the ceiling had man-made rocks! What’s more is that there are even different walls with various angles, making it possible for everyone from beginners to advanced players to match their skills with the appropriate walls and thoroughly enjoy the sport.
On your first visit, the bouldering teacher will show you an example of how to boulder. Our girls anxiously watched as the teacher climbed up a steep wall. But as can be expected from a bouldering teacher he reached the ceiling in no time.
And finally it was time for our girls to give it a try! At first they were quite confused as to how to go about proceeding through the course, but they all put in their best and continued to climb until they reached the goal.
At the end of their climb, the girls’ faces shined with a great sense of success as they had their photo taken!
Exercising your body really does feel great, doesn’t it?!
