Sparkling Success, GEM!! Report on Their First Solo Live at Shinjuku-BLAZE!

Avex’s idol group, GEM held their first solo live at Shinjuku BLAZE in September 13th, 2014. GEM has established a reputation of strong vocal and dance skill, since most of the members have experienced lots of lessons dreaming of entering the show business world. At the same time, the group has two concepts; one is “Black GEM” which performs Western taste music, and second is “White GEM” which performs J-pop music. Both include a wide concept of vehement dance and song performance, and have a high performance skill to entertain several kinds of audiences.

“GEM Live Mixture 2014 First One-man Live ~Light your dreams! Go for it★~” was a huge success. Both tickets, part 1 and 2 tickets immediately sold out, and the crowds gathered at Shinjuku BLAZE before the door opens, and heated the venue. The live was separated by a concept of “Black GEM” (part 1) and “White GEM” (part2).

Surprisingly, GEM appeared in front of the fans with Bach’s Cello Suite No.1 Prelude playing in the back, wearing their first-ever black costume to appeal “Black GEM”. The live continued performing their debut period songs, such as “Do it Do it” and “Kitto For You!” After making the fans nostalgic, their first unit, established with Chisami Itou, Kako Oguri, Rana Murakami, and Sara Hirano, attracted the fans with 1970’s style disco number called “DANCIN’ DANCIN’ DANCE!!” Also, two members, Kako Oguri and Sara Hirano produced the dance, including the choreography. Sara was her first challenge choreographing and producing a dance number. She commented that “it was a bit nervous when first listened the song; however, the dance was completed with the effort of the members, especially Kako who has stayed up late with me at night”. Kako, who supported Sara, apologized to her that “I am an early bird, so I slept suddenly at night during the meeting… I heard that Sara tried to wake me up, but didn’t work… Sorry.”

The live puts on its last spurt with their major debut song, “We’re GEM!”, two latest songs, “Star Shine Story and “Can’t Stop Loving” and ended with their 2nd single, “Do You Believe?” Lastly, GEM appeared the stage again with their one-man live T-shirts on to perform encore song, “We’re GEM!”

Second performance started off with a familiar live song “Girls Entertainment Overture”. The members, dressed up in lovely white dresses, appeared in front of the audience. After the song “Do You Believe?”, the leader called Yuki Kanazawa phrased her thought: “I am so happy that everybody had a good time when the 2nd single ‘Do You Believe?’ was performed. When we first performed this song in front of the audience, many people felt awkward since it is very different compared with other idol songs. We sang this song in many events during this summer. I am just surprised that it has become a song to enjoy!”

Before the encore, each member commented about the overall one-man live.
Naho Iyama tearfully said that “I was so worried if the stage does not fill up with the audience, when I first heard about the one-man live. To tell you the truth, I did not want to go on stage… However, I am so thankful that many people have gathered up for us to see our stage. Please support GEM forever, thank you.”

Rana Murakami commented “today’s stage was not just our work. It was a big performance with lots of supports from the staffs, family, friends, and of course the fans. Because everybody is here for us, we are standing on this stage. Thank you so much.”

The center position, Maya Takeda announced a clear declaration: “I am always dull and have a short memory, but I have decided to become a secure and tight person, so every people could assure that I am the absolute center position!!”

The encore song was “BFF”, an abbreviation for Best Friends Forever, which created a sensational atmosphere. Everyone thought this was the end of the live, but unfortunately, “We’re GEM!” was performed which was the finale.

GEM’s expectation highly rose because of the quick one-man live debut. You cannot miss their actions from now on!!
