Loyal to the Original Work! Dangan Ronpa The Stage Begins

Kanata Hongo, Rei Okamoto, Ryota Ozawa, Hikaru Osawa, Ren Yagami, Manpei Takagi, Reina Fujie (NMB48), Haruka Ishida (AKB48), Reina Ikehata, Seitaro Mukai (Tenshin), Yukie Yamaguchi (Carnival), Yuya Miyashita (RUN&GUN), Hinako Tanaka, Masaya Matsukaze, Sayaka Kanda, and Akira Ishida (NONSTYLE) were there for the dress rehearsal and press conference for “Dangan Ronpa THE STAGE ~Academy of Hope and High School of Despair~” on October 28.

The Dangan Ronpa series sold 600,000 copies of the smash hit detective game, and a stage play following the anime has finally debuted. The story takes place in a private school, Hope’s Peak Academy, that only admits students with first-class talent in any niche where students are compelled to murder each other and participate in a class trial to figure out who killed their classmates.

The cast consists of people from a wide variety of people: actors, actresses, models, idols, voice actors, and comedians. Kanata Hongo plays “Ultimate Lucky Student” Makoto Naegi, Rei Okamoto plays “Ultimate ???” Kyouko Kirigiri, Haruka Ishida of AKB48 and Makoto Okunaka of PASSPO☆ play “Ultimate Programmer” Chihiro Fujisaki,Reina Fujie of NMB48 and model Nagisa Oshima play Aoi Asahina “Ultimate Swimming Pro,” and Sayaka Kanda plays “Ultimate Fashionista” Junko Enoshima.

Kanata Hongo, who served as a spokesperson, commented: “All of us have studied the original and put lots of effort and work into this play. It really worked out well so the play can be seen as a standalone piece. It was very important to work with the image of the original series and I think we were able to embrace it.”

Performing as “Ultimate Clairvoyant” Yasuhiro Hagakure, NONSTYLE’s Akira Ishida says “Although I’m not used to performing, I was able to come this far thanks to the support of the reliable cast. Everyone really loves the series, so I think the play will be really easy to follow and entertaining. I started to get teary throughout the production because of everyone’s hard work, but I had a really great experience. I would love for everyone to come see “Dangan Ronpa” and have a good time.”

In order to be faithful to the original character, Sayaka Kanda, who performs as “Ultimate Fashionista” Junko Enoshima, shows her gorgeous legs in a mini skirt.

Regardless of it being Hinako Tanaka’s (“Ultimate Pop Sensation” Sayaka Maizono) first time performing on stage, she did a wonderful job in her cute seifuku (uniform).

Reina Fujie (NMB48) and Haruka Ishida (AKB48) are so close that fans consider them a “married couple,” and their performance together will be interesting to see.
