The graduation concert for Aya Shibata, a 4th generation SKE48 member, was held at Zepp Nagoya on August 26, 2016.
She joined the group in September 2010 through the 4th generation audition, and was an active member for 6 years, during which she ranked 15th place in the Senbatsu Election twice.
The show started with her portraying Minori Urakawa/Minoru Urayama, the main character of AKB49: Renai Kinshi Jorei Musical. She was supposed to play the character during the musical in April 2016, but had to give up the spot due to academic reasons. According to Shibata, acting out the famous scene from the musical was “the one thing that I really wanted to do while still in SKE48.”
The first song performed was Utsukushii Inazuma, the group’s 12th single for which Shibata was not part of Senbatsu. This fact was pointed out by a kenkyuusei and drew laughter from the crowd.
She performed Kokoro no Placard, the first song where she broke into the AKB48 Senbatsu by winning 15th place at the Senbatsu Election in 2014, with other 4th generation members; then performed “Halloween Night”, the single where she ranked 15th again in 2015, with the kenkyuusei. She also performed “Ai no Imi wo Kangaeteita”, the Under Girls song she centered in 2013 when she ranked 17th in the election that year.
For unit songs, she performed “Ai Shiteru Toka, Ai Shiteta Toka” with Mei Sakai, another 4th generation member, and performed “Wagamama na Nagareboshi”, a very popular song from the Team E “Saka Agari” Setlist, with Kanon Kimoto.
She then performed in a string of singles – “Okidoki”, “Mirai To Wa?”, “Sansei Kawaii”, the song which she was chosen as senbatsu for the first time, “Pareo wa Emerald”, the song that SKE48 performed when they were invited to Kouhaku Uta Gassen, “Mae no Meri”, and more. The main show ended with “To Be Continued”, performed again by all the 4th generation members.
The venue turned to blue and white, Shibata’s penlight colors, during encore. She came on in a pink dress, tailor-made for this day, and performed her graduation song “Sayonara ga Utsukushikute.”
“Until I entered SKE48, I had no hobbies,” said Shibata, “but I gave my everything to SKE48 and it was my everything for 6 years. I was able to overcome difficult times because my fans were always there. I love all of you. I would like to take you with me to the next stage of my life. I am graduating from SKE48, but please don’t graduate from me. Please keep supporting me.”
The last song of the concert was “Aun no Kiss”, a very memorable song where she was chosen as center for the first time.
Comments from Shibata:
Thank you everyone, for coming to see me or watching the stream even though it’s a weekday. I had no hobbies until I entered SKE48, and I gave it my everything for 6 years. When I look back, I felt like maybe there were more difficult times than happy times, but my fans were always there regardless, and I was able to overcome those difficult times. I have come to realize that I love my fans, and that I’d like to take them to the next stage of my life. I am graduating from SKE48, but please don’t graduate from me. I will never forget my fans and what happened here today, as they will help me through difficult times ahead as I pursue my dreams.
