It was announced on February 15, 2016 that Rina Yamato, an ex-Nogizaka46 member who left the group in December 2014, would release her first solo mini album “sakura” on March 16, 2016, via Bellwood Records, a subsidiary of King Records.
Her debut album contains an original song titled “sakura”, or cherry blossoms, and 5 other cover songs by the same name from Naotaro Moriyama, Ikimonogakari, Ketsumeishi, Kyogo Kawaguchi and FUNKY MONKEY BABYS. She chose these songs because she would like those hearing her voice for the first time to connect with her easily.
The original track “sakura” is about anxiously taking that first step towards the future as spring starts.
Yamamoto was born on December 14, 1994 and was part of the dance and vocal unit SPLASH, based in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. She was a founding member of Nogizaka46 and left the group on December 15, 2015.
