Hi, everyone! Thank you for the daily supports of yours.
Today, on April 1st, we have a special announcement about our new project.
So far, we’ve kept doing our best to deliver the real enthusiasm of Japanese Girls Pop Culture from Tokyo to overseas fans.
Now we are proud of delivering Japanese pop-culture to more than 500,000 fans.
Assuming the enthusiasm for Sochi 2014 Olympics, we conclude that we should let foreign people know Japanese traditional sports as well as real trends in Japan. Also, we decided that we should start a new media to deliver another Japanese hot culture. As a result of through research on Japanese cultures, we discovered the very culture which is hot, bouncing, heart catching and loved by the fans all over the world: SUMO.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website: Tokyo Sumo Update.

About Sumo
Sumo is a competitive full-contact wrestling sport where a rikishi (wrestler) attempts to force another wrestler out of a circular ring (dohyō) or to touch the ground with anything other than the soles of the feet. The sport originated in Japan, the only country where it is practiced professionally. It is generally considered to be a gendai budō (a modern Japanese martial art), though this definition is misleading as the sport has a history spanning many centuries.
Many ancient traditions have been preserved in sumo, and even today the sport includes many ritual elements, such as the use of salt purification, from the days when sumo was used in the Shinto religion. Life as a wrestler is highly regimented, with rules laid down by the Sumo Association. Most sumo wrestlers are required to live in communal “sumo training stables”, known in Japanese as heya, where all aspects of their daily lives—from meals to their manner of dress—are dictated by strict tradition.
Idols love Sumo, too!
Needless to say, female idols also love Sumo. Idoling!!! members often have a sumo bout like below.
World famous pop band “Weezer” also loves Sumo!
Sumo wrestler is featured in the Music Video for Weezer’s “Hash Pipe.”
We can say that Sumo is one of the most popular sport among all kind of wrestling.
