True to the promise made at their July 19th Yokohama performance, SUPER☆GiRLS had a bombshell of an announcement for those at the AKIBA Cultures Theater on July 31st. With such major changes as the graduation of former leader Saori Yasaka and the addition of three new members (including Koume Watanabe formerly of Party Rockets) in February, fans had been wondering what the big announcement would be.

The first announcement was of the implementation of “SUPER☆GiRLS Team Travel Uniforms” with sponsored badges. The uniforms were designed to provide something matching for the members to wear while traveling to and from events while boldly proclaiming “We are SUPER☆GiRLS!”. Designed by SUPER☆GiRLS’ resident fashionista Reira Arai, the bright red uniforms are both conspicuous and feminine at the same time.

In regards to the uniforms Rina Miyazaki commented, “We would be doing all these events and there were many times when we would be going to all the different venues, people on the street would say things like ‘Are they AKB?’” She continued, saying “(With these uniforms) I feel that we can say ‘You’re mistaken, We are SUPER☆GiRLS!’ and get attention from people this way!”. When asked, “which sponsors do you want to have on your uniforms?” Rino Katsuta answered with a laugh, “A big one!”

The second announcement was the opening of the iDOL Street label, which means that they would welcome any groups that wanted to join, regardless of their current affiliation. SUPER☆GiRLS was the first group on iDOL Street, a special label created by Avex for idol groups. As part of the announcement, two members of label mates Cheeky Parade and GEM were present at the press conference wearing their representative travel uniforms (Cheeky Parade in yellow and GEM in light blue).

In response to the question, “What kind of idols would you like to have join iDOL Street?” professed idol otaku of the group Nana Asakawa eagerly answered “Morning Musume or Momoiro Clover Z; I want someone like Hiroko Yakushimaru to join!” When the possibility of someone bigger than SUPER☆GiRLS joining the label was raised, Katsuta commented , “I haven’t really thought about it but, up until now SUPER☆GiRLS have been the top of iDOL Street. Is there a possibility that the situation could change?” Almost immediately, a staff member quipped with “Yes there is! If a ‘once in a thousand years talent’ like Kanna Hashimoto were to appear, Katsuta will retire!” which caused the entire room to burst into laughter.
