It seems that no matter what you think you may be good at, somewhere on YouTube, there is a little kid that is already better than you. 11-year old guitar virtuoso Li-sa-X uses a debit card as a pick as she delivers her own original arrangement of Schubert’s Lullaby that will be sure to keep you awake at night as your dreams of becoming a metal god die a painful death.
Set in a slumber party that looks like it’s straight out of Detroit Metal City, Li-sa-X wakes up a mob and has them headbanging themselves back to sleep with a flurry of sweeps, dive bombs, and tapping techniques. Here are some screencaps!
Hailed by MTV as one of several promising talents to carry the torch of women in heavy metal for the future, Li-sa-X has been playing since the age of 5 and her cover of legendary shred metal band Racer X’s “Scarified” at the age of 8 has surpassed 4 million views on YouTube. Former lead guitarist of Racer X (and Mr. Big) Paul Gilbert even acknowledged her skills and invited her to study with him! Here she is with former Megadeth lead guitarist and Japanese tarento Marty Friedman.
While she has made a name for herself with her accurate and frightening covers of Dream Theater, Guthrie Govan, Polyphia, and of course Paul Gilbert, with her first original arrangement, it looks as if Li-sa-X has a bright future ahead of her.
